The rebirth of the Jesi olive grove

The Jesi olive grove project was born from a passion for oil and the olive tree. A passion that has been running for a long time and that with a lot of patience is delivering its fruits. At the top of Via Montecappone there are 150 years old plants. This shows that the place has always been dedicated to this culture. Unfortunately, it had recently been devoted to intensive cultivation and many of the trees have been explanted. Now the project brings back about 1,500 olive trees of the following cultivars over 6 hectares: Raggia, Ascolana, Orbetana, Coroncina, Rosciola dei Colli Esini, Maurino, Nostrale di Rigali, Pendolino, Frantoio and Leccino. The plants are at 6m x 6m distance and a sub-irrigation system has been built on all 6 hectares. The organic certification has been obtained.

Olio lunabianca Vergaro

Our friend Domenico dell'Osso created the label of the package starting from a sketch named "Amarsi". Art, like oil, is a gift of nature. This is why we try to find the most beautiful things to give them to those we love most.
He then executed the painting on canvas recreating a timeless atmosphere where the two characters give themselves a moment of joy that lasts all day and all night.

The oak in the olive tree

Among the secular olive trees of the fund nature reserves a unique surprise. An approximately 25-year-old oak tree was born inside the trunk of a centuries-old olive tree and has grown to a height of about 10 meters. When we started the works in the fund we had not understood that the two trees were one inside the other and therefore had interconnected roots. We then pruned the two trees so as to allow the light to reach the olive tree and we selected the strongest branches of the latter. Now the olive tree is back in production and the cohabitation between the two trees is surprisingly harmonious

EARLY HARVEST

The olives are harvested between the 2nd and 3rd week of October when the content of polyphenols is very high. This gives the oil the bitter and spicy taste typical of these elements. The oil yield is lower than in a subsequent harvest and this justifies the higher production cost. Since the olives are still in the process of veraison, the color tends to be greener.

EXTRACTED SAME DAY

The olives are harvested from 9am till 5pm and then are brought to the mill for processing in the evening. This avoids all fermentation processes that negatively affect the quality of the oil. In fact, as soon as the olives are harvested, if massed, they begin to increase their temperature up to 37/38 degrees.

FILTERED

The oil obtained from the milling is filtered to eliminate all vegetable suspension residues. In fact, extra virgin olive oil is a 99% pure vegetable fat. Vegetable residues tend to decompose like all vegetables, creating defects both in taste and in the conservation of the oil itself.

ORGANIC

Lunabianca extra virgin olive oil is obtained following the organic farming regulations prescribed at EU level. Organic fertilizers and natural-based treatments are used. The olive grove is naturally fertilized and the clippings, including those of pruning, are left on the ground. The product and the procedures followed are certified by Suolo e Salute Certification company.
